How to Register for Census 2027
The Self-Enumeration portal at se.census.gov.in opens 15 days before the Houselisting Operations begin. In Maharashtra, this is May 1, 2026. The entire registration and form-filling takes about 15–20 minutes.
- Head of Household Name — Enter it exactly as it should appear. No corrections possible.
- Mobile Number — Only one number per household. That number cannot be used for any other household.
- Language — The form language chosen at setup is permanent. Choose the language you are most comfortable with.
Registration Steps
Visit the Official Portal
Open https://se.census.gov.in on your mobile phone or computer. This is the only official government portal for Self-Enumeration.
Select Your State / Union Territory
From the dropdown menu, select your State or Union Territory. For Maharashtra residents, select "Maharashtra".
Enter the Captcha Code
A captcha image with letters and numbers will appear. Type exactly what you see. If you cannot read it, click the refresh icon to get a new one.
Enter Head of Household Name
Type the full name of the Head of Household. ⚠️ IMPORTANT: This name CANNOT be changed after registration. Double-check the spelling.
Enter Mobile Number
Enter a 10-digit mobile number. An OTP will be sent to this number. ⚠️ Only one household can register with this mobile number.
Enter Email ID (Optional)
You may provide an email address. This is completely optional. The census form can be completed without an email.
Select Language
Choose the language in which you want to fill the census form. ⚠️ IMPORTANT: This language CANNOT be changed after selection.
Verify Your OTP
Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your mobile number. Once verified, your account is created and you can start filling the form.
After Registration
Once your OTP is verified, you will be taken to the main census form. You can:
- Fill in the form section by section
- Save your progress as a draft at any time using the "Save Draft" button
- Return later using your registered mobile number to complete it
- Preview all your answers before clicking "Final Submit"
